Frequently asked questions

What type of skin treatments do you offer?

This changes depending on what your skin type and you’re looking to treat. Your bespoke treatment plan could include one or a combo of the following: over-the counter cream/gel/ointment, prescription cream/gel/ointment or topical/oral antibiotics.

When treating acne, our core treatments focus on keeping your pores open, slowing down your skin layer production, and decreasing the amount of bacteria on the skin

When can I expect to see the results from my treatment?

This depends on your skin type and what you’re looking to treat. Typically for Acne treatments, you’ll see results after a few weeks of treatment, but it tends to get worse before it gets better as your skin gets used to your new regime. A lot of people see a flare-up in the first 4-8 weeks of treatment. You should try to stick with your treatment plan for 3 months before deciding to switch things up, and remember – the most effective way to treat acne is to be consistent.

What’s important to remember is looking after your skin takes time. That’s why our medical team is here to give you support and guide you through your skincare journey.

Are there any side effects?

Just as with any medicine, there can be side effects even with the best, evidence-based, skin care medications.

You will be provided full information once you have your free consultation with the doctor.

Good thing with regulated medicine is that it’s well studied and the researches show only a small percentage will experience side effects. However, we still want you to be 100% informed and comfortable about what you take.

Wait, I've never even met you. How are you going to personalise my treatment?

It all starts when you fill out our questionnaire and chat to your doctor online. Your doctor needs to know about your health (like your medications, skin type, any prior surgery and medical conditions) and your skin condition. They'll then review everything, determine if you're a candidate for telemedicine and craft a personalised treatment plan just for you, guided by your background medical information.

Not ready for prescription treatment?

There is zero downside to getting a free doctor consultation.

But if you're still not ready to chat to a doctor, give our non-prescription a go.

How to find the most effective products to treat acne?

Finding the most effective acne treatment products can seem like a demanding task. However, you can find what works for you based on the kind of acne you have. Here is a general guide that will help you classify your unique situation.

Inflammatory acne

When someone is to describe pimples, it is usually in the form of inflammatory acne. It is the most common type of acne and is generally classified into papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts.[1]

  • Papules. This type of acne appears when there is debris build-up on your skin. More specifically, bacteria, oil, and dead skin are embedded onto the skin and can cause skin indentation, irritation, and surrounding inflammation. At this stage, the acne is a small red bump with no centre of pus.
  • Pustules. These blemishes are very similar to papules as they are also caused by debris build-up. However, as they embed onto the skin, they are filled with pus and cause inflammation.
  • Nodules. Nodules are larger than typical pimples and are known to form underneath the surface of the skin – causing a number of dark blemishes to appear. They have no centre point or visible ‘head’.
  • Cysts. Think of cysts as a more severe version of pustules. They also appear as inflamed pus-filled bumps and are typically more painful. They dig deeper into the skin and cause more scarring.

Non-inflammatory acne

Non-inflammatory acne is less talked about but is also prevalent with men of all ages. The two major types of non-inflammatory acne are blackheads and whiteheads.[2]

  • Blackheads. Medically referred to as open comedones, this type of acne appears when degraded skin cells and an oily substance called sebum obstruct the pores on the face. They are seen as black dots, thus the name blackheads
  • Whiteheads. This type of acne is medically referred to as closed comedones. However, instead of the pore being open like a blackhead, the whiteheads close off the pore entirely. This means that squeezing on the area to remove the white bumps will not work.

Now you know what type of acne you have. However, finding the most effective acne treatment products for your body will take some time if you’re researching on your own. So skip all the fuss and long hours of research with Mosh’s services. With us, you can have an Australian doctor analyse your situation and have them create a personalised anti-acne cream for your specific situation.

How often should I use these products?

More does not always necessarily mean better. With over-the-counter acne treatment products, you can observe how your skin reacts to the ingredients and then take treatment frequency from there. Ideally, you should consult with a doctor and follow his or her instructions to ensure you’re on the right track. There are many products that contain some active ingredients. For example, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are two of the well-known over-the-counter options. While these medications may prove effective, they could cause dryness and irritation if you’re not careful.[3]It’s important to find products that work well with your skin type and have ingredients you can tolerate long term, which is why having the advice of a doctor is crucial.

At Mosh, our team of doctors is always available whenever you need them. No matter where you are at any time of the day, medical care is just a call or even a text away. Check out the personalised acne treatment products from Mosh and have them delivered to your home as you need them.

How long do these products take to work?

This depends on your skin type and what you’re looking to treat. With generic options, it generally takes at least four to six weeks[4] to see changes in your appearance. For some people, it tends to get worse before it gets better as the skin is still getting used to the new regimen. It's important to give your products enough time before you and your doctor decide if they are working for you or not, and if you require a change in treatment. Remember: consistency is key to treating acne.

One-size-fits-all solutions aren’t always the best approach, as they could cause irritation or dry skin to occur. And on top of all that waiting, there’s no telling if these products will even prove effective for you in the end.

This is where Mosh fits the bill. Our expertly formulated acne treatment products are personalised based on your specific skin condition. When you apply to be an online patient in our clinic, all you have to do is follow three steps.

First, answer a couple of questions on our platform so our doctors can get to know your skincare situation better. Afterwards, consult with them through video calls, voice calls, and even text messages. Lastly, sit back and relax as the recommended acne care products are delivered right to your door.

So join us today and finally get the treatment you deserve!
